The Google Doodle from today, and the explanation behind it.
Roxbury artist creates Google Doodle for MLK Day
By Linda Matchan
GLOBE STAFF JANUARY 19, 2015
One morning last month, Roxbury artist Ekua Holmes got an unexpected e-mail. The subject line: “Hello from the Google Doodle team!”She didn’t know what a Google Doodle was, let alone that it had a whole team behind it. “I’m sure I’d seen them, but I didn’t know it was a whole thing,” she said.
She does now. On Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Holmes’s Google Doodle illustration honoring the civil rights leader is the featured image on Google’s US homepage. The collage depicts King walking arm in arm with fellow activists in Selma, Ala.
Most artists could only dream of such exposure. Traffic to the page is typically in the many millions. “It’s pretty astronomical [and] jaw-dropping,” said Ryan Germick, who leads Google’s Doodle-making team.
Holmes, a painter and collage artist who is not represented by a gallery, was shocked to be tapped for the project. “He said he found me somewhere on the Internet. Somewhere on the Internet? That’s like somewhere in the Himalayas,” said Holmes, 59, whose Roxbury home is about five blocks from where she grew up.
Some little known speeches from Dr. King.

President Obama full Interview with Marc Maron | 10 Take-a-Ways & What we Learned
Now that we’ve tackled the jackals on President Obama’s use of the word NIGGER, let’s get down to the REST OF THE STORY, as the late Paul Harvey said. REAL TALK
You can read the top 10 things we learned here.
Here’s one, I found not surprising and powerful. Congress dropped the ball and really showed how cowardly they are that they would not get on board after the mass murders of our children. That said it all about where their allegiances truly are. And here we are numerous times later, having to burry our American citizens because of a certain segment of our country who CLING TO THEIR GUNS, shoot & kill with little to NO IMPUNITY.
Time: Starts@14:35 mark with gun violence. The media focused on the word Nigger to distract from the point of GUN VIOLENCE & how Congress really did commit a crime by not supporting gun safety law
2. He found Congress’ reaction to Newtown “disgusting”
Obama says the response to the shooting in Newtown was the closest he’s come to being disgusted as President. The fact that 20 six year olds were gunned down, and Congress did nothing, infuriated him. He notes, sadly, that real change to our gun laws won’t happen with this Congress. At least, not until the people’s voices are heard.
So yes; they are mad, and that’s too damned bad. listen to the full interview again, and comment on your take-a-ways. Thank you!

O come, O come, Emmanuel is a translation of the Latin text (“Veni, veni, Emmanuel“) by John Mason Neale and Henry Sloane Coffin in the mid-19th century. It is a metrical version of a collation of various Advent Antiphons (the acrostic O Antiphons), which now serves as a popular Advent and Christmas hymn. Its origins are unclear, it is thought that the antiphons are from at least the 8th Century, but “Veni, veni Emmanuel” may well be 12th Century in origin.[3][4] The text is based on the biblical prophecy from Isaiah 7:14 that states that God will give Israel a sign that will be called Immanuel (Lit.: God with us). Matthew 1:23 states fulfillment of this prophecy in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth

“What Child Is This?” is a popular Christmas carol written in 1865. At the age of twenty-nine, English writer William Chatterton Dix was struck with a sudden near-fatal illness and confined to bedrest for several months, during which he went into a deep depression.[1][2] Yet out of his near-death experience, Dix wrote many hymns, including “What Child is This?”, later set to the traditional English tune “Greensleeves“ and retitled as “What Child Is This?”
